Modular heat pumps are among the Whipple Building's energy-efficient systems.
Energy efficiency was an overarching goal for the modernization of the Bishop Henry Whipple Federal Building. Every engineering system, control strategy and design decision was made to reduce the building's energy consumption and environmental impact.
The primary objectives of the Bishop Henry Whipple Federal Building modernization were to modernize all of the existing engineering systems, design systems that were at least 30 percent more efficient than baseline standard, allow occupants to continue to work throughout the renovation process, and achieve LEED Gold.
The Whipple Building met every project goal--and then some. Read the details in this 2016 ASHRAE Technology Award Case Study by Sarah Berseth, PE, published by the ASHRAE Journal.
